People working in a distillery or winery will have a variety of job duties. They include gathering water and raw materials, overseeing fermentation, blending and bottling, and managing a team of professionals.

Additionally, they may be in charge of the production process and the day-to-day operations. Other roles may include measuring and weighing ingredients and keeping the distillery floor, surfaces, and tanks clean while following quality guidelines.

Some establishments also have restaurants or bars and employ servers, cooks, waiters, and other food-service-related workers. Lastly, some offer tours of their facilities and require tour guides.

Some of these tasks may not be appropriate or safe for a person with significant mobility impairment, especially a person that uses a wheelchair. It is also worth noting that if such a person was permitted to work in this type of environment, there might be workplace health and safety issues in ensuring a safe workplace.

On this basis, employee-only restricted work areas may be considered exempt from all accessibility requirements under the Premises Standards and BCA requirements. However, it is important to note that any such claim for an exemption must be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
