A barman or barmaid is responsible for crafting cocktails, pouring alcohol, and serving customers. They must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift large volumes of liquids. They also communicate with patrons, verifying they are legally able to purchase and drink alcohol. They will direct bartending operations, including beverage inventory, ordering supplies, taking inventory and receiving deliveries. They may also clean bar and public areas, clear tables and operate commercial dishwashing equipment.
Some of these tasks may not be appropriate or safe for a person with significant mobility impairment, especially a person that uses a wheelchair. It is also worth noting that if such a person was permitted to work in this type of environment, there might be workplace health and safety issues in ensuring a safe workplace.
